Die finnische Sopranistin Sonja Herranen zählt zu den bedeutendsten jungen Gesangstalenten Finnlands. Mit ihrem strahlenden, weit tragenden Sopran und ihrer eindrucksvollen Bühnenpräsenz hat sie sich rasch sowohl auf der Opern- als auch auf der Konzertbühne etabliert.

Internationale Aufmerksamkeit erlangte Herranen 2023 mit dem Gewinn des Elisabeth Connell Prize International Singing Competition in London. Bereits zuvor hatte sie beim Gesangswettbewerb von Lappeenranta den zweiten Preis sowie den Sonderpreis der Finnischen Nationalopernstiftung erhalten. 2019 wurde sie beim Timo Mustakallio Gesangswettbewerb im Rahmen der Opernfestspiele von Savonlinna mit dem zweiten Preis ausgezeichnet.

Ihr Debüt an der Finnischen Nationaloper gab sie 2022 als Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte. 2024 kehrte sie als Dritte Norn in Götterdämmerung dorthin zurück. Bei den Opernfestspielen Savonlinna debütierte sie 2024 als Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, gefolgt von Liù in Turandot im Jahr 2025. Im Sommer 2026 kehrt sie nach Savonlinna zurück und gibt ihr Debüt als Gräfin in Le nozze di Figaro.

Finnish soprano Sonja Herranen has emerged as one of Finland’s leading young voices. With her radiant, expansive soprano and compelling stage presence, she has quickly established herself on both the operatic and concert stage.

Herranen first attracted international attention by winning the Elisabeth Connell Prize International Singing Competition in London in 2023. Earlier that year, she received Second Prize and the Finnish National Opera Foundation Special Prize at the Lappeenranta Singing Competition. In 2019, she was awarded Second Prize at the Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.

She made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in 2022 as the First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, returning in 2024 as the Third Norn in Götterdämmerung. At the Savonlinna Opera Festival she debuted as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni in 2024, followed by Liù in Turandot in 2025. In summer 2026, she returns to the festival to make her debut as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro.
